In 2006, the voters in Hennepin County elected Rich Stanek the 27th Sheriff of the County. Sheriff Stanek took office in January, 2007 and appointed a Command Staff including a Chief Deputy and four Inspectors. Working together with approximately 800 employees: Licensed Deputies, Detention Deputies, and Civilians they manage nine lines of business:
1 - Patrol
2 - 911/Dispatch
3 - Crime Lab
4 - Investigations
5 - Jail
6 - Court Security
7 - Civil Process
8 - Warrants
9 - Personnel/Training
Community Advisory Board
In 2008 we organized the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Community Advisory Board, a group of residents of diverse backgrounds who meet on a regular basis and provide the Sheriff's Office with their insights and perspectives regarding the state of Public Safety in Hennepin County. This is a forum for citizens to be heard and to comment on ways we can improve communication with residents, to identify resident priorities, and share concerns and suggestions. I am committed to accountability and transparency in the Agency; these continuing conversations provide an educational opportunity for the Agency to learn more about the expectations of the residents we serve.

Special Deputies and Volunteers
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office actively recruits and trains volunteers who provide approximately 16,000 of service hours at an estimated $19.46 in value for each hour of service. (This is the equivalent of 8 Full Time Employees!)
We have sworn Special Deputies who serve in the Mounted Patrol, the Mobile Amateur Radio Corps, the Emergency Squad, and Water Patrol, and dozens of civilian volunteers who serve in the Jail.
